The Hill of Content Hal Porter Short Story Competition is presented by ArtsNet East Gippsland; awarding a first prize of one thousand dollars, and two secondary prizes of five hundred dollars annually.

The 2007 Prize List
The Winner
The $1000 First Prize, courtesy of the Hill of Content Bookshop, was awarded to Ryan O'Neill of Wickham NSW for his story Tyypographyy.
Ryan was born in Scotland, and has spent much of his adult life teaching English
in Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe. Since settling in Australia, he has
had short stories published in several literary magazines, as well as two
small collections of stories, Six Tenses and A Famine in Newcastle.
Runners Up
Two supplementary prizes of $500, courtesy of ArtsNet East Gippsland were awarded to SJ Finn of St Kilda for Flame Game and Catherine Ryan of Vaughn for Public Art.
The Shortlist
The short list in random order from 185 entries: Mastering History by Carol Middleton (Vic) and A mansion on the hill by Paul Mitchell (Vic).
Short listed entries receive a certificate and book prizes donated by the University of Queensland Press.
The judges congratulate the winner, runners up and shortlisted writers.
