From 1pm 22 June two groups will again warm up the room at Cafe Snap with a lively afternoon of jazz featuring young jazz musicians and singers. It will be a toe-tapper for sure and  doubt anyone would discourage of bit of a shoe shuffle on the dance floor as well.

Like the Nagle Jazz, the N-Chanters, Nagle's singing group is made up of a crossection of students from all year levels.  The N-Chanters are joined each week in rehearsals by a small number of BSC students who come across after school.  The N-C repertoire includes songs from all around the world from many different genres including jazz, folk, liturgical, spirituals. Nagle Jazz consists of students from Year 8 – 12, and the repertoire includes music in a variety of styles including swing, latin and rock.

Also featured on the 22nd will be the well known singing group, The Alley Cats.

The Alley Cats is a local community choir that sings songs from around the world. Established about 5 years ago, it has up to 30 women members, but usually performs with between 8-16 singers.

Their repertoire includes songs from Timor, Phillipines, Africa, Ireland, New Zealand and Australia and by artists such as Sweet Honey In The Rock, Tiddas, Eva Cassidy, Coco’s Lunch, and traditional spiritual and gospel numbers.

The Alley Cats have performed at private functions, fundraisers, award nights and festivals, and will be performing as part of the Millenium Choir in Melbourne later this year.

If you were in the crowd at our last, last music afternoons then you know what you're in for, if you weren't, come along and find out.

A great day for all ages in a cosy, relaxed atmosphere.

Instant Singing Workshop

Margret RoadKnight "Instant Singing" Workshop for people of all singing abilities. $15 for a lively and inspiring singing workshop to bring the talent out in everyone who participates.

Margret RoadKnight's career as a guitar-playing singer began in '60s Melbourne and has taken her around the globe, where she's performed on indoor & outdoor stages, big & small screens, radio & recordings, and even YouTube. She also conducts Vocal Workshops based on the many songs she's absorbed during her travels through six continents.

Margret moved to Lakes Entrance several months ago (yes, she's directly descended from those pioneers) and her first local appearance will be at Snap Alley Arts on Sunday afternoon 13th July with her 2-hour "INSTANT SINGING" workshop for adults, where all participants get to claim their singing birthright.

"Whether you're an under-the-shower warbler or an experienced singer, this gathering is guaranteed to be different, stimulating, and above all - fun!" she promises. "You'll be vocalizing from the first minute, exploring various ways of being involved with a variety of songs, simple to more intricate. There's no need to audition, read music, or book. Just come along prepared to be energized and empowered by joining in".

Crikey

It's all been happening here in the laneway.

The most noticeable change has been the extraordinary upgrade to ArtsNet's performance space Snap Alley Arts.

A dedicated band of volunteers and staff have transformed  a serviceable but flawed room into one that has attracted immediate praise from performers and performance groups across the region and beyond.

Warts & All Update

Nigh on ten bands and performers gathered at Snap Alley Arts for the 7 July day long Bairnsdale session  of Warts & All. The day was loud, packed with diversity, enjoyed by everyone who attended and was, to quote ArtsNet EO Daniel Jenkins "everything a community arts project day should be".

Warts was also amongst the thirty people gathered at The Butter Factory for the Buchan sessions on 24 August.

You can find photos of the Bairnsdale sessions here.

Jafa Theatre

Jafa Theatre's latest productionTwo Shades of Darkness opened to the public on 17th August.
